Goodbye Gray Skies, Hello Blue

Stormy Skies over Lake Bled

Stormy Skies over Lake Bled

One of my favorite things about travel and travel blogging is that we’ve now got friends around the world. We met Dalene of Hecktic Travels at the Travel Bloggers Unite Umbria conference in April and when I saw that she and her husband, Pete, were staying in nearby Ljubljana, I suggested we meet up. Two blogging couples with busy schedules sometimes makes that difficult, but we all agreed to meet in Bled for the Bled Days and Bled Night Festival.

And I am so glad that we did! Bled Days and Bled Night is a festival I’ve been wanting to attend for 3 years. (More on the festival coming soon!) We awoke the morning of the festival to rumbling thunder that shook the house and the blackest skies I can recall in a long time. I couldn’t believe it and had we not already had plans to meet Dalene and Pete, we probably wouldn’t have made the 2.5 hour drive to Bled.

About an hour after arriving in Bled, the rain subsided. We met up with Dalene, Pete, and Michael of Go, See, Write for dinner. We settled in to a table on the terrace at Panorama, picking one under the awning just in case the skies opened up again. We laughed over wine and beers while sharing our travel experiences; the conversation flowing with ease as 5 near strangers bonded over a love of travel.

By the time we finished dinner, the dark skies had cleared and the remaining clouds were tinged a golden color as sun finally came out. Tim, Pete, and Michael all began snapping away.

Those photos are so gorgeous! I so want to go to Slovenia. I don’t think I’ve heard one bad thing about it, and your pictures are making me antsy to get there!
